About London Play

Established in 1998, London Play is the charity for children’s play in the capital and the creator of this website.

We champion the work of London’s adventure Playgrounds with our Annual awards, established back in 2000, and run a variety of projects aiming to bolster the skills of both play workers and the children who use the playgrounds. From Camp Build, our kids residential building project,  to our Go Kart events which give young people a chance to build and race against other playgrounds in London, our projects support playgrounds in a hands on — but most importantly, fun — way!

Our vision is a London where all 1.8m children can play outside every day, near to where they live – be that in an adventure playground, in the park or on the street.

2020 saw us launch our innovative Play52 cards, road tested by 2,000 children  who received them in emergency Play Parcels distributed by adventure playgrounds and food banks during the COVID-19 lockdown. The cards are now available to buy and all proceeds support our work — click on the Play52 box to find out more.

We have also led the play street revival in London and beyond. We started putting play back on the street in 2008 with our award-winning Street Play project. More than a decade later, we are pleased to say that two thirds of London boroughs now have a play street policy in place and thousands of children and adults across the capital have experienced the joy of regularly coming together on their street with neighbours, to play — or just sit and drink tea and swap stories together.
